Grameenphone has launched e-SIM for the first time in the country. The e-SIM will be available in the country from March 7.
With the slogan '4g e-SIM: Now is the time for eco-friendly digital SIM', Grameenphone subscribers can now enjoy connectivity without a plastic SIM card on devices that support e-SIM.
To get a new Grameenphone e-SIM connection, customers need to go to the Grameenphone Experience Center (Dhaka and Chittagong) and the designated Grameenphone Center with a device that supports e-SIM, complete the biometric registration process and request for an e-SIM. Following the SIM purchase process, you can also request for e-SIM through Grameenphone's online shop. To activate e-SIM, you need to turn on the internet connection (mobile data or WiFi) by scanning the QR code with the camera on the device that supports e-SIM. This will eliminate the problem of conventional SIM card. It is estimated that e-SIM usage will increase to 3.4 billion by 2025.
Multiple networks and numbers can be connected in one e-SIM. However, it will depend on the handset. This will ensure uninterrupted connectivity services around the world. Customers will be able to use multiple numbers in e-SIM, which will bring more convenience for travelers. Since the solution will be embedded with the device, there is no need to do anything manually.
E-SIM will provide enhanced security as user information will be stored in digital format. In the age of optimization, e-SIM will make the concept of conventional SIM card and tray invalid. As a result, the size of the phone battery can be increased in the remaining space or more features can be added to the handset. There is no risk of losing the SIM card as it will be connected to the device; At the same time, customers will be saved from the hassle of SIM PIN. ‘ফোরজি ই-সিম : পরিবেশ-বান্ধব ডিজিটাল সিমের এখনই সময়’ স্লোগানে গ্রামীণফোনের গ্রাহকরা এখন ই-সিম সমর্থন করে এমন ডিভাইসে, প্লাস্টিক সিম কার্ড ছাড়াই কানেক্টিভিটির সুবিধা উপভোগ করতে পারবেন।
গ্রামীণফোনের নতুন ই-সিম সংযোগ পেতে হলে ক্রেতাদের ই-সিম সমর্থন করে এমন ডিভাইস নিয়ে গ্রামীণফোনের এক্সপেরিয়েন্স সেন্টার (ঢাকা ও চট্টগ্রাম) এবং নির্ধারিত গ্রামীণফোন সেন্টারে গিয়ে বায়োমেট্রিক নিবন্ধন প্রক্রিয়া শেষ করে ই-সিমের জন্য অনুরোধ করতে হবে। সিম কেনার প্রক্রিয়া অনুসরণ করে, গ্রামীণফোনের অনলাইন শপের মাধ্যমেও ই-সিমের জন্য অনুরোধ করা যাবে। ই-সিম সমর্থন করে এমন ডিভাইসে থাকা ক্যামেরা দিয়ে কিউআর কোড স্ক্যান করে ই-সিম সক্রিয় করতে ইন্টারনেট সংযোগ (মোবাইল ডাটা অথবা ওয়াইফাই) চালু করতে হবে। এর ফলে প্রচলিত সিম কার্ডে যে ঝামেলা রয়েছে তা দূর হবে। ধারণা করা হচ্ছে, ২০২৫ সালের মধ্যে ই-সিমের ব্যবহার বেড়ে হবে ৩.৪ বিলিয়ন।
বহু নেটওয়ার্ক এবং নম্বর একটি ই-সিমে সংযুক্ত করা যাবে। তবে এটি নির্ভর করবে হ্যান্ডসেটের ওপর। এর মাধ্যমে বিশ্বজুড়েই নিরবচ্ছিন্ন কানেক্টিভিটি সেবা নিশ্চিত হবে। গ্রাহকরা ই-সিমে একাধিক নম্বর ব্যবহার করতে পারবেন, যা ভ্রমণকারীদের জন্য আরো স্বাচ্ছন্দ্য নিয়ে আসবে। সল্যুশনটি যেহেতু ডিভাইসের সাথে এমবেড করা থাকবে, তাই এক্ষেত্রে ম্যানুয়াল পদ্ধতিতে কিছু করার প্রয়োজন হবে না।
ব্যবহারকারীদের তথ্য ডিজিটাল ফরম্যাটে স্টোর করা থাকবে বলে ই-সিম উন্নত নিরাপত্তা প্রদান করবে। অপ্টিমাইজেশনের যুগে, ই-সিম প্রচলিত সিম কার্ড ও ট্রে’র ধারণাকে অকার্যকর করে ফেলবে। ফলে এর মাধ্যমে অবশিষ্ট জায়গায় ফোনের ব্যাটারির আকার বৃদ্ধি করা যাবে কিংবা হ্যান্ডসেটে আরো ফিচার যুক্ত করা যাবে। ডিভাইসের সাথে সংযুক্ত থাকবে বলে সিম কার্ড হারিয়ে যাওয়ার কোনো ঝুঁকিই থাকবে না; একইসঙ্গে সিম পিনের ঝামেলা থেকেও গ্রাহকরা রক্ষা পাবেন।
